Orthodox spirituality has preserved in the pantheon of emblematic figures of its development and in the image of Saint Nicodemus the Aghiorite. The personality of this holy monk contributed to the revitalization of Orthodoxy in general and the Greeks in particular, being a component part, engaged in the complex process of rediscovery and capitalization of the Holy Orthodox Tradition. The Holy Orthodox Tradition represented the response of Byzantine culture to the ʺthreatʺ of Western rationalism. Thus, through hesychasm and the translation of the writings of the holy fathers, a new intense current of prayer and spiritual development in the spirit and moral values of Orthodoxy have been developed.
