Saint Porphyrios of Kavsokalyvia is one of the great Greek Saints of the 20th century. The saint is known throughout the Orthodox world for his special graces and miracles. He was a true theologian, in the true sense of the word, who lived and interpreted for our times the spiritual experience of the ancient Holy Fathers. In the present study, we attempt not only to present a biography of St. Porphyrios but to highlight the authentic spiritual relationship he had with his spiritual fathers, which is the foundation of the spiritual life in the tradition of the Orthodox Church. Without a good confessor to guide us in the spiritual life, and to whom to be obedient, the spiritual life often remains unmotivated. Saint Porphyrios is an example of obedience to his spiritual Fathers, not out of fear or some kind of compulsion, but out of spiritual love.
