The religious musical education has been rooted in Romania since the 15th century, when, within various monastic centers, the Byzantine cultic music was taught in the established schools. Since these centers were insufficient and the need to form and prepare church singers was great, private schools were set up to prepare the future singers to serve parochial churches within the urban and rural areas starting with the second half of the 19th century onwards. Due to material and non-material shortages, this process was complicated and doubtful. The first half of the 20th century marks the period when many schools of ecclesial music are formed thus leading to the grounding of future forms of institutionalized religious musical education. The village and the Church joined to create the conditions for these activities, thus contributing to an evident development if it is to compare the beginning and middle of the last century.
